Home-Made Donuts Recipe | Baked

Basic Donuts recipe
Makes 12 donuts

4 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 to 1 teaspoon nutmeg, to taste
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-2/3 cups All-Purpose Flour
1 cup  milk

Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Lightly grease two standard doughnut pans.

Beat together butter, vegetable oil, and both sugars until smooth.

Add the eggs, beating to combine.

Add baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, salt, and vanilla.

Add the flour, alternately with the milk. Batter will be thick.

Spoon the batter into doughnut pans, filling the wells to 3/4 full.

Bake for 10 minutes.

Remove from the oven, allow to cool for 10 minutes.

Put them on a wire rack to finish cooling.

Topping Ideas

* While still warm brush on melted butter and coat with a mixture of cinnamon & sugar
1/4 cup of Melted Butter
1/2 cup of Granulated Sugar
1 Tbsp of Cinnamon

* Shake in a bag on xxx sugar while still hot, t is like a glazed dount because the sugar will melt..

* Add 3/4 cup of mini chocolate chips to the batter.

* Vanilla Glaze

1 1/4 cups xxx (confectioners)sugar or glazing sugar.
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 to 2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix well and dip donuts into glaze.

* Chocolate Glaze

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoonsbutter
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Melt the ingredients together in the microwave in 10 second intervals, stirring often.
Add extra corn syrup if needed to make a smooth, shiny glaze.

Mix well and dip donuts into glaze.

Note: For a reliably shiny finish, choose chocolate whose main ingredient isn't sugar.
Using chocolate chips that list sugar as the main ingredient often produce a glaze that's grainy & dull-looking.

* Additional toppings: Chopped nuts, toasted coconut, powdered sugar, sprinkles.
