Chocolate Caramel Surprise

1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1-1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar + additional 
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 large egg
4 dozen pecan halfs
4 dozen Kraft caramels, cut into quarters

  1. Preheat oven to 350 ◦  
  2. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Mix and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl combine the butter, and both sugars, Beat until fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla. Beat again.
  5. Slowly add the flour mixture. 
  6. Roll the dough into 1" balls and place a pecan half on top.
  7. Place the cookie dough, pecan side down, on a greased cookie sheet.
  8. Wet the bottom of a glass with water then dip in the additional sugar, press down on cookie.
  9. Place 4 quarters size pieces on each cookie.
  10. Bake for 15 minutes.
