- Mix together 1-1/2 cups warm water & yeast and stir until yeast is dissolved.
- Add sugar & salt.
- Add flour.
- Knead until smooth and elastic.
- Let rise until double (about 1.5-2 hours)......While dough is rising add baking soda to 2 cups of lukewarm water.
- After the dough has risen, pinch off some dough and roll into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.
- Dip pretzel in soda water solution and place on a greased baking sheet.
- Allow pretzels to rise.
- Bake in 450° for about 10 minutes or until a golden brown.
- Remove from oven and brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt or a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
