2 cups sugar
1 cup real butter

1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon lemon juice
5 cups diced apples
1 cup walnuts, diced

- Cream butter and sugar.
- Add eggs and mix well.
- Combine dry ingredients in another bowl and add to egg mixture.
- Sprinkle lemon juice over apples and stir into batter, along with the walnuts.
- Batter will be very thick. Turn out into a buttered 9 x 13 baking dish.
- Bake in a 350 degree oven for 50 - 60 minutes.
- Remove from oven when lightly browned on top.
- Place on cooling rack.
- Frost when completely cool.
Cream cheese frosting:
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 stick real butter
2 3/4 c. powdered sugar
2 T. lemon juice
1 t. vanilla
1 stick real butter
2 3/4 c. powdered sugar
2 T. lemon juice
1 t. vanilla
- Cream butter and cream cheese until "fluffy".
- Add powdered sugar, a little at a time, along with lemon juice and vanilla.
- Spread liberally over cake.
- Enjoy!
