Chocolate-Covered Cherry Cookies

Cookies1-1/2 cups flour½ cup cocoa¼ tsp salt¼ tsp baking powder¼ tsp baking soda½ cup butter,softened1-1/2 tsp vanilla10 oz jar maraschino cherries

Chocolate Topping6 oz pkg semisweet chocolate chips½ cup sweetened condensed milk2 tsp reserved cherry juice

  1. Cookies
  2. Preheat oven to 350◦
  3. Combine the flour, cocoa, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Mix. Set aside.
  4. Drain cherries, reserving the juice. Set aside.
  5. In a mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  6. Add eggs and vanilla.
  7. Slowly add the flour mixture.
  8. Shape dough into 1" balls. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  9. Using your thumb, press down in the middle and place a cherry on it,
  10. Chocolate Topping
  11. In saucepan, combine the chocolate chips and condensed milk..
  12. Stir until chocolate is melted.
  13. Stir in 4 tsp reserved cherry juice. (You can use more if needed)
  14. Spoon 1 tsp of chocolate over each cherry, spreading to cover cherry.
  15. Bake for 10 minutes.
