Apple Dumplings



3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 cup Crisco
1 egg
1 teaspoon vinegar
6 apples
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup butter + 1 dab
1-1/3 cup hot water
2 teaspoon of sugar
Dash of cinnamon
Dash of nutmeg
Combine:
3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 cup Crisco
  • Set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 450°
In a 2/3 cup measuring cup:
Beat 1 egg
Add 1 teaspoon vinegar
Fill up the rest of the cup with water
  • Add to flour mixture.
  • On a lightly floured board, knead to shape then roll out to 1/8 inch thickness.
  • Cut into 6 squares
  • Place an apple on each square.
  • Top each apple with a little sugar, a dab of butter and a generous sprinkling of cinnamon.
  • Bring dough u to cover apple and pinch edges to seal.
  • Place in a greased pan, sealed edges under.  Set aside.
Combine:
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup butter
1-1/3 cup hot water
Dash of cinnamon
Dash of nutmeg
  • Pour over dumplings.
  • Bake at  450° for 15 minutes; then reduce heat to 350° and bake until done.
